Thoughts instilled by PKK terror Print E-mail

There has been an increase in the PKK terror recently. Whatever the reason is, the fight with the terrorist organization will continue. Another issue attracting attention is the determination of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). In brief, these are critical days. Our friends, who say we should collaborate in the fight against terrorism, are unfortunately aiming to reach their own national targets by using terror as an excuse. They are trying to fulfill their responsibilities only by pretending to be opposing terrorism. We should evaluate the issue we are encountered with seriously, take the necessary measures without wasting any more time and use our international rights.

Only under these conditions can we discover the intended tricks on our country and awaken.

I look at the political parties; they are just after entering Parliament. This is a natural aim. I hope that after they enter, they will focus on this serious threat and confess who the betrayers to justice are. I've said betrayers, since I remembered some words by Atatürk. I constantly write and say on all occasions, “The PKK is amid us, masked during the day and armed during the night.” In the drive to eradicate the betrayers, the General Staff declared three cities as security zones. If necessary, a state of emergency (OHAL) or martial law can be declared. These measures are legal, juristic and their usage on time is as important.

The existence of those who attend the funerals of the dead terrorists and in this way support terrorism knowingly or unknowingly is thought provoking. We now see the harsh results of negligence or the failure in taking the necessary measures in adequate dimensions. The Turkish community is altruistic, patient and loves its country. It is the duty of the government to enable the betrayers and those having some misconceptions to come to the right path as soon as possible. It is also the duty of the government to confess who they are as soon as possible. Today, the deterrent role of the operation going on along our southern borders is important. If we observe, the effect of it is even seen in the Kandil Mountain and in Massoud Barzani's reactions.

Economic, social means needed as well

It is important to bring not only military measures but also economic, social and other means to the agenda to stop terror. For a long period, closing the Habur border gate has been mentioned. According to claims this gate provides $300 million or maybe more than that to Barzani in a year. Who gets $400 for each truck and trailer and for what purposes is this money used? When one recalls that northern Iraq's tobacco, tea, alcohol, sugar and rice are smuggled into Turkey – or allowed to enter Turkey through various ways – some questions keep recurring in the mind. According to claims, Barzani has 180 companies in Turkey. My government of course knows this information and more. Then what measures are taken or will be taken?

The goal of terrorism and our “friends” who support it is to weaken Turkey. This idea and activity is known as “Hostile Action” and is not befitting our friendship, international law and also humanity.

It is predicated by public authorities that the government of Iraq and its supporters have been backing the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Therefore, it is possible to break these tricks through new ones and strategies. The details of the Great Middle East Project are generally known but hidden details are in the pages of history.

Entering Iraq is the last option

Another important issue is whether Turkey will enter Iraq or not. The land operation should be our last alternative. However we may have to give priority to bombing terrorist abodes with air attacks in similar fashion to the way the U.S. and Israel always do. Whereas our land is facing a serious terror threat, air operations should be conducted occasionally, when needed. Can the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) stay indifferent to the threats aimed at one of its members?

In conclusion, the patience of the Turkish public is about to be exhausted. It is important in this atmosphere that friends' and allies' know their places. More bloodshed should be avoided.
