Turkey is keeping its military options open on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) terrorist activities across the Iraq border, wrote the NY Times Tuesday. An article on the newspaper's Web site by Şebnem Aksu, the NY Times reporter in Turkey, referred to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as saying that despite the relative calm in northern Iraq, all options remained open in Turkey's struggle against PKK militants.

‘Turkey Beyond 2008' to be discussed in NY

  The Turkish-U.S. Business Council of the Foreign Economic Relations Council (DEIK) is expected to hold a conference on "Turkey Beyond 2008" in New York on Oct. 16, announced DEIK in a statement released yesterday. DEIK said today's and tomorrow's Turkey will be analyzed and the economic climate and various sectors in Turkey will be discussed during the conference.

Fugitive militant loses Belgian appeal

  Belgium's Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that a fugitive Turkish militant can be tried in Belgium for crimes she is accused of committing in Turkey if she is caught, a lawyer involved in the case said.  Ankara has been seeking the extradition of Fehriye Erdal to stand trial in Turkey for her alleged part in the murder of prominent businessman Özdemir Sabancı in 1996.

 Turkey to decide on energy project

  Iran's acting Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari said that Turkey has a maximum of four months to decide on the south Pars gas field project in an interview with the Iranian Students' News Agency, reported the PressTV Tuesday. According to the memorandum of understanding between the two countries, 20 percent of the gas will be sold to Turkey for domestic use, the official added.
