‘Turkish shelling on Iraq hampers aid' Print E-mail

Turkish artillery bombardments on Iraqi territory are hampering relief efforts in north Iraq, the International Organisation of Migration (IOM) said Wednesday. "Artillery bombing of the Turkish army on the borders villages is causing our monitors to cease their assessments, because they cannot reach the displaced populations," IOM Iraq official Dana Graber told journalists.

Fuses in German plot come through Turkey

  Fuses intended for use in a suspected plot to bomb U.S. installations in Germany came from Syria through Turkey, the German interior minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said Tuesday. Schaeuble, who was in Washington for security talks, called for common trans-Atlantic security policies to fight the "asymmetric" battles waged by militant networks.

EU wipes Turkey from the euro map

  European Union countries have struck Turkey off the map of Europe as represented on new euro coins, prompting protests from some lawmakers. The European Commission proposed Turkey should be featured on a new series of coins whereas the final design approved by EU governments excluded Turkey. A Commission spokeswoman confirmed the design had been changed by the Council.

We collaborate with Iraq, Turkey against PKK

  "We understand that the PKK is an emotional issue for people in Turkey and are working closely with the Iraqis and the Turks to deal with this problem," said spokesman for the United States State Department Tom Casey Tuesday. Reminded of Turkish Land Forces Commander General Başbuğ's criticism on U.S. policies, Casey said the PKK is classified as a terror organization in the U.S.
