Four members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in a southeastern province of Turkey, the General Staff said yesterday in a statement posted on its Web site. Four outlawed PKK separatists were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in the Beytüşşebap district of the Şırnak province, the statement read.The four had escaped after carrying out a rocket attack on a gendarmerie headquarters in Beytüşşebap on Monday, it added.Another PKK member surrendered to Turkish security forces in another southeastern province of Turkey, Hakkari, the army also said.Turkey, provided with intelligence by the United States, has stepped up military action against the outlawed separatist PKK since December.  The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by much of the international community including the United States and the EU.   Also yesterday, The General Staff declared some regions as temporary security zones. Turkey's General Staff announced some areas in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions as temporary security zones, an information note posted on the General Staff's Web site said. The information note listed these areas as some parts of Şırnak, Siirt, Hakkari and Van, and said that these areas would be temporary security zones from Sept. 13 to Dec.13.
