DTP protests and Tayyip Erdoan Print E-mail

The Democratic Society Party, or DTP, is about to lose local municipalities in the eastern provinces, which it considers its fortress. There is a fire in the East but the reason is sabotage.

A significant part of people living in the region have a Kurdish origin. They have sympathy for the DTP and before it, for the PKK. However, do these people believe that the DTP has an ability or an intention to solve daily problems ranging from the simplest to the greatest? No!

Demonstrations appearing during the Prime Minister's visit showed that the DTP has come to a point of desperation. As for the Prime Minister's visit, it is impossible not to appreciate him on the grounds that he did not cancel any part of his program despite the security threats. Although he would be found reasonable if he had cancelled his visit due to assassination plans, he fulfilled the necessity of being a Prime Minister. I think explaining his attitude just through local elections is unfair. Certainly, he has some expectations for local elections. Moreover, the fact that his expectations are not baseless is not a secret. That is the reason why the DTP revolt when the subject is Erdoğan, but not any other politician.

The DTP considers winning the elections in Diyarbakır as a matter of life or death in terms of its politics. It has already realized that it has started to dissolve in the face of the AKP, and may lose governance of the city after five months. I think the reason for the violence is to discourage the Prime Minister. It is also possible that the reason is to browbeat Diyarbakır residents.

Until the local elections and then maybe later, I have no doubt that the DTP will continue to do politics over violence for any reason. If the Constitutional Court does not pay a favor to the DTP by shutting it down, and if the DTP enters the elections and loses, party authorities will have to account for Abdullah Öcalan, and it is reasonable that this fear overcomes other fears.
